This is an ‘html-only’ version of Scribblings with no database behind it. This means it is not possible to search it. I am working on a new version with which I am hoping to eventually put back into the main site. The new version is here but please note that there is no link directly back to the main site.

Suspicious suspicious packages

There’s something I find mighty suspicious about the bombs which have been found at East Midlands airport and in Dubai.

In the first instance we were told that the packages appeared to be a dry run and didn’t seem to contain explosives. So far, so reasonable, I guess. Then, poof, ta-da, drum roll, they magically contain explosives and not just any explosives either but al Qaida ‘fingerprint’ explosives. Not only that but they’re addressed to synagogues in Chicago.

Somewhere along the line we were told that the bombs or dummy bombs were hooked up to mobile phones although some news reports had one simply hooked up to a SIM card which is, erm, pretty damned dumb.

The latest piece of information about the packages themselves is that were were designed to explode in mid-air rather than when they reach their destinations.

I don’t think there’s a conspiracy here. Rather, I think that most likely one of two scenarios is broadly true —

  • the whole thing is a set up or possibly a dry run by one of the security services but they didn’t quite get their story straight
  • the packages really were a terrorist dry run, as we were originally told, but the politicians decided that the opportunity to turn a molehill into a mountain was too good to miss and everything subsequent to the initial announcement is sheer invention

Of the two I think I go for the latter. Politicians never knowingly miss an opportunity to either big themselves up or divert attention from something they know we won’t like. Odd that it just happens to be the week of the US mid-term elections in which Obama’s party is likely to be hammered by the Mad Hatters. Our own government too, rather desperately needs something to get us talking about something other than their bash-the-people cuts in public spending.

Rodents. I smell rodents.

Update (12:05 1 November 2010)

My friend Carolyn has pointed out the following —

very feasible…. especially after last week’s rumblings on the ridiculous security at airports?

An apology

Since moving the site to a new server Scribblings is not as easy to find your way around as it used to be. It used to depend on a script and a database on the server but is currently served as ‘flat html’.

I have some ideas about how to make it a bit easier but they depend on writing another script. I hope to get around to it ‘eventually’.
