This is an ‘html-only’ version of Scribblings with no database behind it. This means it is not possible to search it. I am working on a new version with which I am hoping to eventually put back into the main site. The new version is here but please note that there is no link directly back to the main site.

Oh no, it’s Boris

Technically Boris Johnson, who has just been elected Mayor of London, cannot be an idiot; ‘idiot’ is an archaic medical term referring to someone with very low intelligence and I am sure that Boris has a reasonable level, the problem really being that he does not ever seem to have learned how to use it. He is prone to gaffes and apparently racist and insensitive statements about whole groups of people and even entire cities. Rather than referring to him as an idiot I think it is probably best to think of him as a complete prat.

Whenever I have seen him interviewed or engaging in debate throughout the mayoral campaign he has displayed a woeful inability to grasp the issues and appears to just make his ideas up as he goes along. Boris is not the sort of person to run one of the world’s great cities with its highly diverse mix of people from widely different backgrounds. He’s bound to upset someone pretty soon and will, I have no doubt, turn London into one of the laughing stocks of the world. I dread to think what state the services for which he is now responsible, such as public transport, will be in four years when he gets to the end of his term of office.

The election of Boris Johnson is a perfect example of just one of the problems with democracy: people who really don’t have any idea what they’re doing are allowed to vote. Did I really just say that? Yes, seems I did. Perhaps it means that I’m as big a snob as Boris.

An apology

Since moving the site to a new server Scribblings is not as easy to find your way around as it used to be. It used to depend on a script and a database on the server but is currently served as ‘flat html’.

I have some ideas about how to make it a bit easier but they depend on writing another script. I hope to get around to it ‘eventually’.
