This is an ‘html-only’ version of Scribblings with no database behind it. This means it is not possible to search it. I am working on a new version with which I am hoping to eventually put back into the main site. The new version is here but please note that there is no link directly back to the main site.

The Pope is dead

John Paul II, 1920-2005
Pope John Paul II

The Pope is dead1. Now perhaps we can have some sort of rational debate about the non-existence of God2. No? Thought not. Perhaps too, we can look forward to fewer people catching HIV and dying of AIDS because the new Pope will not have such insane views on the use of condoms3. No? Thought not. Then again maybe the sky will open and a being with a long white beard and a loud voice will proclaim “Time’s up, folks”. Now that would be interesting. But thought not.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! I’ve just been struck by lightn…4

1 One of them anyway. There are at least two but I’m talking here of the one who is head of the Roman Catholic Church. The other, or others, is alive and kicking so far as I know.

2 Although the Catholic Church, to give it its due, does not these days fly in the face of evidence. It no longer, as a body, believes in the literal truth of the Bible. It is not currently trying to push the view that if evidence tells you one thing while your faith tells you another then you should reject the evidence and follow your faith.

3 It never ceases to amaze me that those who seek to lecture the rest of us about our sex lives have themselves taken vows of chastity.

4 Normal service will be resumed when I have had a word with the man with the white beard.

An apology

Since moving the site to a new server Scribblings is not as easy to find your way around as it used to be. It used to depend on a script and a database on the server but is currently served as ‘flat html’.

I have some ideas about how to make it a bit easier but they depend on writing another script. I hope to get around to it ‘eventually’.
