This is an ‘html-only’ version of Scribblings with no database behind it. This means it is not possible to search it. I am working on a new version with which I am hoping to eventually put back into the main site. The new version is here but please note that there is no link directly back to the main site.

Unconnected connectedness

A couple of facts I came across while browsing the web this evening keep going around in my mind. They appear to be connected in some way which suggests that the American people are not using properly joined-up thinking:

  • According to a survey reported by MotherJones.com 52% of Americans wouldn’t vote for a well-qualified atheist.
  • When George W. Bush was interviewed by Rob Sherman he said I don’t know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic. This is one nation under God.

Quite why it is that my mind won’t let these things go is driving me crackers. Could it be that I see the self-professed Born Again Christian who is currently President of the USA, and who looks like continuing in that role for another four years, as one of the most immoral men on the planet? Surely there must be more to it than that? I have a sneaking feeling that it’s got something to do with atheists having to work out their own morals rather than taking on board a pre-packaged set.

An apology

Since moving the site to a new server Scribblings is not as easy to find your way around as it used to be. It used to depend on a script and a database on the server but is currently served as ‘flat html’.

I have some ideas about how to make it a bit easier but they depend on writing another script. I hope to get around to it ‘eventually’.
