Please note that this software was written to work with Risc OS 3.7. It may work with later (and earlier) 26-bit versions of OS but is unlikely to work with the 32-bit versions on the Iyonix.

There is nothing I can do about this. My Risc PC died early in 2005 and nothing I have tried will bring it back to life. All the source code is on its hard drive. I probably do have copies on floppies but without access to the machine I cannot read them.

Version 0.99j
14 April 2001

I wrote this program when I got cheesed off with trying to print emails with lines too long to fit the width of the page. I hated the appearance of wrapped lines.

PEM will print text files using any installed font. You can have it set the font size which fits the page without wrapping lines if you wish (though it will wrap if you really want it to). You can also set up sideways printing, page headers, pause between pages, printing pages in reverse order and line spacing. PEM makes no attempt to join adjacent lines and so tables laid out with spaces or tabs are preserved (well, so long as you use a monospaced font). It will accept text files saved directly to it from other programs (including Edit, Zap and Marcel).

PEM has been around for a while but I’d never written any real documentation and so hadn’t indexed it from anywhere on this site. Nevertheless, people have commented favourably on it and cajoled me into adding features (word of its existence got around somehow). I’ve now documented it and so feel able to ‘officially’ release it.

PEM 1.00b4

Also available is beta test 4 of PEM 1.00 (26th May 2001). This has all the configuration accessible from within the application itself. It also has various enhancements such as background printing, an optional filter which passes files dropped on the printer icon to PEM and various bug fixes.

This version is very stable on my own machine (Risc OS 3.70). If you download it I’d be grateful if you could drop me a line to tell me you’ve done so and let me know of any problems you find with it.

Please note

The software on this site only runs under Risc OS. It will not run under Windows, DOS or any other PC thingy.

Of course it won’t run under Mac OS, Unix or any other operating system either but then if you use one of these you’ve probably sussed that out already. It seems to be only PC users who have trouble in this respect :-)
