OK, it’s probably insane but the folks at worldjumpday.org are hoping to shift the Earth into a new orbit by having people jump in the air at a precise time of day on 20 July 20061.
The idea is to help stop global warming and they back it up with some impressive sounding studies from a number of universities. It’s probably all hooey but you never know, I suppose. They say they need 600 million jumpers and currently have over 70 million.
If you go to their site you can find exactly what time you need to jump, provided you can find your city in the drop down list. If you like you can give them your email address and they’ll remind you about it the day before the event.
Madness? Perhaps. Problem is that if they succeed the length of the year, and perhaps the day, will change which is going to cause all hell to break loose isn’t it? All our clocks will be wrong, we’ll all be late for work and we’re going to have to switch our brains to work to a different biological clock. Not to mention the possibilty of causing earthquakes and confusing the heck out of the cat.
1 That’s next year (2006) not this year (2005)
