Virtual bubblewrap

Why is popping bubblewrap so much fun? Everyone seems to do it whenever they get hold of the stuff. For some of our science classes at school we have to give out loads of it (it makes a very good heat insulator, you see). It nearly always comes back with all the dimples popped. We can never get enough of it.

What are you supposed to do though if you develop a terrible urge to start a-popping and yet there isn’t any around, probably because you’ve already used up your entire supply? Fear not, help is now at hand with the invention of virtual bubblewrap1. With a click of your mouse you can always get a fresh sheet.

Methinks that some people have far too much time on their hands…2

2 It gets worse, you know. There’s a list of methods for popping bubblewrap on the site too along with a long list of other ideas, some of which are truly weird, added by readers.

It’s still not as good as the Pizza Server which I came across many years ago, in the days before the web3. You sent it commands, such as ‘toppings’, by email then sent it a request for the pizza of your choice. Soon after that you received a picture of your pizza by email. Toppings you could add included kittens and eyeballs as well as the more usual pepperoni and pineapple. I seem to recall that the server was set up by a couple of dental students.

3 Ye gods, it still exists but now as a web site. And yes, it does still offer kittens as toppings.
